The nation’s pioneer land-grant university, MSU is one of the top research universities in the world. Home to nationally ranked and recognized academic, residential college, and service-learning programs, MSU is a diverse community of dedicated students and scholars, athletes and artists, scientists and leaders.

Highlights
Michigan State faculty members are involved in high-profile research projects such as the Teachers for a New Era initiative, which seeks improvements to teacher preparation education, among other areas. Some projects offer opportunities for graduate students to get involved in research, and the school runs about 10 research centers and institutes including the Education Policy Center and the Institute for the Study of Youth Sports. MSU is also one of the nations Top 5 Universities for sustainability.
 
Unique characteristics
Downtown, students can choose from dining and nightlife options, and the city is also home to the Great Lakes Folk Festival. Lake Michigan and its beaches are a short trip away, as is the state capital of Lansing. The Michigan State Spartans compete in the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference, supported by award-winning mascot Sparty. There are more than 600 student clubs and organizations, including more than 55 fraternities and sororities.
