University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC)

About
The University of Nottingham Ningbo is an overseas campus of the University of Nottingham, in the UK, situated in the coastal province in Zhejiangi. It was the first Chinese-foreign university to begin operation in China and was established with the full approval of China’s Ministry of Education.

Highlights
The relatively new university has staff and students from more than 70 countries and regions around the world. It has three faculties: Arts and Education, Science and Engineering and Social Sciences, with 16 academic schools and departments. In its 11 years of operation, it has grown to offer 29 undergraduate courses and 15 postgraduate courses. In 2008 it was awarded a license to grant PhDs and now has more than 100 PhD students.
 
Unique Characteristics
The University of Nottingham has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Fudan University to create a ‘Confucius Institute' in Nottingham. It will be dedicated to the expansion of existing links with schools, business, government, community groups and the Chinese cultural community to promote the teaching of Chinese language and contemporary Chinese culture. Scholarships are available to 4 selected students from UNNC international exchange partners. Winners will be awarded a one-off payment of RMB3000 if students exchange at UNNC for a semester or an academic year. 

 
Location
Ningbo lies south of the Hangzhou Bay, which separates it from the municipalities of Jiaxing and Shanghai; to the east it faces the East China Sea. Located 220 km from Shanghai, it features ancient structures from many Chinese dynasties. A city of more than 7 million people, it has many restaurants and small eateries.
