About

The Parsons School for Design, The New School

Location: New York, NY
Year Established: 1896
Student population: 10,300

About
The Parsons School for Design is a preeminent global college of art and design. It was the first in the US to offer university degrees in fashion design, interior design and lighting design and is world famous for being a pioneer in design education. Since 1970 it’s been part of The New School, a comprehensive university which also comprises an important liberal arts college, performing arts college and social research school.

Highlights
Parsons has a diverse and talented student community who study in a network of interconnected design laboratories, extensive studio facilities and professionally staffed model, fabrication, and print shops. There are impressive prototyping, photography and imaging labs, metalworking, jewellery and woodworking facilities as well as design libraries, computer labs, and galleries and exhibition facilities. Students share the facilities of The New School, including residence halls, eateries and libraries.

Unique characteristics
Parsons has five schools with 27 programs. There are plenty of options for interdisciplinary study, and programs actively relate to each other across the School and the wider New School network.

Location
The Big Apple offers a huge variety of attractions. On any one day you can visit the Met, the MoMA and the Guggenheim, tour a huge variety of museums and galleries, go to a thumping opening party, see a Broadway show or simply savour life in Manhattan’s streets, packed with eateries, book shops and delis. The food, like the inhabitants, comes from all over the world, the dining and nightlife are legendary, and the dynamism of the city has to be experienced to be believed.
