Britain’s oldest degree-granting music school, the Royal Academy of Music – London is an institution of world renown in 20 musical disciplines. Its student body is from 50 countries. The Academy offers everything from academic studies to composition, conducting and a wide range of instrumental teaching including brass, jazz, musical theatre, piano, opera, vocals, woodwind and stringed instruments.
Highlights
The Academy offers a striking Edwardian building dating from 1911 that includes over 100 teaching and practice studios, several large concert rooms, electronic and recording studios and a constantly updated creative technology suite. It has relationships with some of the world’s premier music schools including the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Unique Characteristics
In 2016, the Academy will open a new theatre suitable for all forms of contemporary opera and musical theatre productions and a 100-seat roof-top recital hall that will feature state-of-the-art recording facilities. The Academy’s alumni include Annie Lennox, Elton John and Michael Nyman.
