Exchange programs are available to current students and provide the opportunity to engage in an overseas experience for a full semester or academic year.

Planning early is helps ensure that you can complete an overseas exchange program during your University of Sydney course. This gives you enough time to research your options, plan your enrolment and get the advice you need before applying.

Steps to applying for the semester exchange program:
  1. Attend a general info session or application workshop
  2. Check the requirements of your University of Sydney course (start by reviewing your Course Handbook).
  3. Research our partner universities on the Sydney Abroad Global Mobility Database
  4. Submit your Semester 2, 2023 Semester/Year Exchange application prior to 5pm, Friday 9 December 2022. 
The next available intake for Semester/Year Exchange programs is for programs commencing in Semester 2, 2023.  The Semester 2, 2023 Semester/Year Exchange application will open on 1 September 2022.  The deadline will be 5:00pm, Friday 9 December 2022.

Semester 1, 2024 Limited Universities Round

There are a small number of partner universities which have application deadlines over one year prior to the program's start date.   
  
This means that if you are planning to apply for an exchange at any of the below universities, you must apply in the Semester 1 - Limited University round.   The applications for this round will open 15 October.  The deadline for Semester 1, 2024 Limited University round will be 5pm, Friday, 9 December 2022.   
  
Semester 1 Limited Universities: 
  • Canada - McMaster University
  • Canada - University of Alberta 
  • Canada - University of Toronto (Super Exchange Partner)  
  • Denmark - The Royal Danish Academy of Music (Conservatorium of Music) 
  • United Kingdom - Glasgow School of Art (College of the Arts)
  • United Kingdom - Royal Academy of Music (Conservatorium of Music) 
  • United Kingdom - Royal College of Music London (Conservatorium of Music) 
  • United Kingdom - Royal Northern College of Music (Conservatorium of Music) 
Late application submissions cannot be considered.  Please ensure that you give yourself plenty of time to prepare and submit your application by the deadline.   If you have any questions about the application process, please attend an info session or application workshop.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Semester Exchange Program you need:
  • a weighted average mark (WAM) of at least 50
  • to have completed at least 24 credit points of study at the University of Sydney
  • to be meeting your academic progress requirements.

Virtual Semester Exchange

Participating in a Virtual Semester Exchange Program is an exciting opportunity to gain personal, academic and employability skills with a cross-cultural perspective. Virtual programs enable you to gain the valuable skills that you usually develop through international experiences without the associated costs that a trip overseas can bring.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Virtual Semester Exchange Program you need:
  • to be an Undergraduate student with flexibility in your degree
  • a weighted average mark (WAM) of at least 50
  • to have completed at least 24 credit points of study at the University of Sydney
  • to be meeting your academic progress requirements.
