INCiTE Summer School with the University of Edinburgh, University of Amsterdam & Nanyang Technological University

Location: Suzhou, China
Program dates: 8 – 19 July 2019

This two-week intensive Summer School will bring students from 4 top ranking Universities together (The University of Edinburgh, University of Amsterdam, Nanyang Technological University and the University of Sydney) in transnational, interdisciplinary teams to provide an accelerated course in Entrepreneurship and Intercultural Competence. In Suzhou, China, a global center of innovation, students will develop entrepreneurial skills, well-developed occupational and business awareness and cultural competencies that can be applied in local, national and global settings.
 

China - Suzhou - INCiTE
This project with create a unique opportunity for students to observe different methods of teaching, learning & problem solving that span three continents, create international networks and be taught by world class academics in an international setting.

This program is open to students of all nationalities, however the cultural competency element of this program is specific to Chinese culture, and may not be useful for Chinese nationals.

The program consists of four components;
  • before the start date: online networking and research using digital toolkits and a purpose-built online platform
  • in-country coursework: intensive interactive lectures taught by leading academics from the University of Edinburgh, USYD, Nanyang Technological University & the University of Amsterdam on Design Thinking and cultural competency at Suzhou University.
  • transnational teams: multicultural teams will work on a real world problem (Global Challenge), presenting a pitch at the end of the presentation to an audience of business and community leaders.
  • in-country site visits and social program: site visits to innovation giants, Huawei and Alibaba, as well as cultural social programs to develop personal and professional networks.

Useful Information 

Location Overview
Suzou is a major city in the southwest Jiangsu Province of China, and is a major economics centre and focal point of trade and commerce. The city's canals, stone bridges, pagodas and meticulously designed gardens have contributed to it's status as one of the top tourist destinations in China. With several World Heritage Sites, classical gardens and it's location on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, Suzhou is often dubbed the 'Venice of the East'.

Accommodation
Students will be housed in on-campus accommodation at Suzhou University. Rooms will be two beds each with a private bathroom. All dormitories will be single-sex and provide a cafeteria breakfast, and the total price will be included in the program fees.

Student Support
There will be one staff member for every 10 participants in this program, including one academic and two admin staff, to ensure all students are well catered to and supported.

Finances

Tuition: This program is non-exchange, and all fees are paid directly to the INCiTE program.
 
Total Program Fee: Y8650 (approx. $1720 AUD)
 
Fee inclusions: Accommodation and daily breakfast, airport pick-up & send-off, welcome and farewell dinners, social and cultural activities (3 events).

Scholarships: Sydney Abroad is offering several $1000 Vice Chancellor's Mobility Scholarships to applicants of this program.

Travel insurance: If you are approved by the University of Sydney to participate in this program you will be covered by the University's Student Travel Insurance Policy. This is a complementary policy to cover you for the duration of your University of Sydney mobility experience. Please refer to the Audit and Risk Management website for all travel insurance queries.
 
Other costs: Flights, visa, meals (except breakfast), other travel expenses.
