About
University of Florida is an exceptional school located about two miles away from downtown Gainesville, a college town bolstered by the school’s nearly 50,000 students. Students acquire an intellectual foundation based on a well-rounded and comprehensive education designed for an increasingly technological and rapidly changing society. It is well known for its academic prestige as well as it strong athletic department. UF is consistently ranked among America’s top universities and is one of only six universities in the country with colleges of medicine, engineering, law, agriculture and veterinary medicine on the same campus.

Highlights
University of Florida has a lively and passionate environment offering involvement opportunities for all its students to maximise their university experience. There is no doubt one can find their niche with over 1000 student organisations to choose from. UF is the state's oldest university, with The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences being the largest college on campus. The Liberal Arts and Sciences faculty has more than 10,000 undergraduate students pursuing a variety of disciplines through its 33 majors and 48 minors. In 1985, UF became a member of the Association of American Universities, an organisation made up of the top 62 universities committed to using research to change the world.

Unique characteristics
University of Florida students have access to more than 200 research, service and education centres, bureaus and institutes.  This contributes to a key point of differentiation which UF prides itself on, being its research that is conducted from the earliest stages of being a freshman and sophomore. This approach has clearly yielded results, with UF having two times the national average of inventions produced per research dollar invested. In terms of its athletic prestige, UF’s football team ‘The Gators’ became the namesake for ‘Gatorade’ in 1966. Consequently, UF’s athletic department is the only program to finish in the top 10 of the last 32 national all-sport rankings.

Location
Gainesville is located in north central Florida and is well known for its combination of college-town vitality and protected natural beauty.  It offers 30+ miles of biking and hiking trails while spotting wildlife like birds, bison, wild horses or alligators in seven area Florida state parks. It has a huge range of outdoor activities and due to its heavily student populated cross section, Gainesville has a thriving arts and culture scene with many lively bars and live music venues.
