Sophia University

Location: Tokyo
Year Established: 1913
Student Population: 13,000
Sophia University is a private Jesuit research university in Tokyo’s Chiyoda district. It is ranked among the top private selective universities in the country.
The university takes its name from the Greek word “Sophia”, meaning wisdom. Sophia’s main Tokyo campus comprises 25 large modern buildings near central Tokyo. The faculties of Humanities, Law, Foreign Studies, Economics, Liberal Arts, and Science and Technology are located here. There is a separate campus nearby for the Faculty of Theology
Unique Characteristics
Admission to Sophia University is highly selective, with only five per cent of those applying gaining a place. It accepts a limited number of international students on exchange programs.
Tokyo is a world famous city that is dazzling in its modernity but still manages to retain its traditional culture along with a passion for everything new. The city may seem overwhelming and incomprehensible at first, but gradually most people who spend any amount of time there grow to love it. It is full of bars, neon, nightlife and friendly people.
