Alfred University

: Alfred NY
Year Established: 1836
Student population: 2,300
Alfred University was founded by liberal, independent thinkers and has clung to the values of its founders – it’s the second oldest co-educational college in the United States and one of the first to enrol African American and Native American students. It is characterised by its strong academic reputation, diversity and social inclusiveness.
Alfred University is relatively small, with a strong sense of community and good relationships between staff and students. The average class size is 18. The campus offers more than 50 residential and academic buildings plus a large area of recreational land. There are more than 60 student-led clubs and societies and a wide range of sports. It has one of the largest academic observatories on the East Coast as well as sophisticated equipment for characterising and analysing materials, and excellent art-making facilities.

Unique characteristics
Alfred University offers a full range of programs in the liberal arts and sciences, art and design, engineering, business, education, counselling and school psychology. Undergraduate research is one of the University’s hallmarks.
The campus is nestled between the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains and the Finger Lakes region in western New York State. It’s a classic college town close to Toronto, Buffalo and Syracuse, with just over 5,000 residents. The campus is safe and friendly, with plenty of activities for you to enjoy.
