Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD)
Location:  Halifax
Year Established: 1887
Student Population: 1,000
A post-secondary art school, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, commonly referred to as NSCAD, is one of Canada’s oldest independent cultural institutions. It is regarded as a principle centre of education, research and visual culture in North America.
The college was founded in 1887 by Anna Leonowens, the feisty heroine The King and I. Named after its founder, the Anna Leonowens Gallery is the public exhibition space and resource centre on campus.

Unique Characteristics
NSCAD offers popular courses including art history and critical studies, craft, design, fine arts and media arts. It also offers a one-year Master of Design and Master of Fine Arts programs. The Master of Fine Arts in Craft program is discipline-based in ceramics, jewellery design and metalsmithing or textiles. The Master of Fine Arts in Fine and Media Arts is cross-disciplinary in nature.

Halifax is the capital of Nova Scotia province with a population of around 390,000. Located beside the waterfront, it is known for its sea breezes, clean air, parks, trees and cosmopolitan vibe.
