UPMC, formerly Pierre and Marie Curie University (French: Université Pierre-et-Marie-Curie) or also known as Paris VI, is a public research university in Paris, France. It is a founding member of the Sorbonne University Group, a cluster of five universities with best talent in a wide array of disciplines economics, humanities, business and administration, science, medicine, and technology. Sorbonne University proposes new transversal academic programs and expanded scientific expertise.
UPMC’s faculty brings research directly into the classroom. Its research teams are co-sponsored with the French scientific research centre (CNRS) and the national health and medical research institute (Inserm). As the largest university of its kind in France, UPMC has the critical mass to conduct cutting-edge research. The University includes a faculty of medicine, affiliated with Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital and other teaching hospitals; and has departments of chemistry, engineering, mathematics, physics, life and earth sciences, environment and biodiversity.
Unique characteristics
UPMC’s educational approach is closely tied to research, and it operates more than 100 research centres and laboratories. The research labs are structured into four divisions: Modelling & EngineeringEnergy, Matter & the UniverseLiving Earth & Environment; and Life & Health. Cost of Living

Nicolas Baudin Travel Grant: Exchange students can apply for a grant from the French Embassy to assist with the cost of a return flight ticket between Australia and France.
Erasmus+: There are two Erasmus+ scholarships available for undergraduate students to attend UPMC for up to five months each, consisting of up to 1100€ to cover the cost of a return flight, and a 650€ per month living stipend.
Endeavour ISEP grants: Up to five student grants of $5,000 will be awarded to eligible students in 2018-2019.

Students under the age of 28 who don't have a European Health Insurance card must pay for health insurance ("Securité sociale") when registering at UPMC.If they want, students with health issues can also sign up for complementary insurance in order to have additional coverage for particularly costly healthcare needs.

Campus France is a French government agency for the promotion of international student mobility. Visit their website for more information about preparing to study in France.

Semester/Term Dates
The academic year is divided into two terms, the first of which runs from approximately 1 September to January while the second runs from approximately 15 January to 31 May. Some courses are taught on an annual basis. The last fortnight of January is devoted to examinations. Further examination sessions are held from May to the end June.
Orientation will be held at the beginning of the semester.
