 Program description This Winter head to Berkeley, California and study either a 3 or 6 week intensive and gain credit towards your degree. Berkeley is well-known for being a centre of academic achievement, scientific exploration, free thought, and free speech.  Berkeley has a strong community feel, with easy access to the major metropolitan cities of Oakland and San Francisco just a short commute away.

Program dates Six Week Session: July 3rd 2017 – August 11th 2017*
Three Week Session: July 17th 2017 – August 4th 2017*

IMPORTANT: Program end dates impact on Semester 2 2017 lectures (commencing on Monday 31 July 2017). Students must ensure they adhere to their individual attendance requirements for all units of study at the University of Sydney. No special consideration will be given by the faculty for assessment extensions or deferred exams because of their late commencement. If you are unsure of the requirements of your University of Sydney course please consult your faculty. Special permission may be required in some circumstances.

Application deadline 12 May 2017
Eligibility criteria All students must demonstrate a serious intent to study. There is an English Proficiency Requirement to evaluate the proficiency of students whose native language is not English. Please refer to the Berkeley’s website for full eligibility criteria here.
Credit / Not-for-credit You will be emailed credit application instructions for your faculty once you have expressed interest in this program with the form linked at the bottom of this page. Please allow 1-2 weeks for this information to be sent through.
Language Classes are instructed in English.
Fees and scholarships 2017 Program fee
For enrollment, you pay tuition and fees published for international students. You should also consider the following items for your total budget: airfare, housing, living expenses, textbooks, course materials, lab fees, spending money, etc.

OS-HELP loans may be available to eligible students enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place where the program is approved for credit prior to departure. Application required.

About the university The University of California, Berkeley, is regarded as one of the most prestigious state universities in the US and is a top 10 globally ranked University by Times Higher Education. Berkeley is part of the University of California System, it was founded in 1868.

Attractions on campus include a Botanic Garden established in 1890 and the 60,000-capacity California Memorial Stadium used by the university’s sports teams.

Berkeley’s sporting prowess was demonstrated at the 2012 Olympics in London, when its graduates won 17 medals – 11 gold, one silver and five bronze. If Berkeley had been a country, it would have ranked joint sixth in the gold medal table, alongside France and Germany.
