Université Paris 1 Panthéon- Sorbonne - Law

Location: Paris
Year established: 1971
Student population: 40,000
A descendant of the 800 year-old Sorbonne and the Faculty of Law of the Pantheon, the Université Paris 1 is one of the largest and most prestigious universities in France. Located in Paris’s lively Latin Quarter, it’s a world leader in humanities, social sciences, law and economics research.

Paris 1 offers both tradition and modernity in the largest campus in the world, occupying part of the Sorbonne and other prestigious French university buildings. It also houses University of Paris III: Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris-Sorbonne University, Paris Descartes University and the Chancellerie des Universités. Lectures and ceremonies are held in the great lecture hall, which is also holds a number of important international conferences.

Unique characteristics
Paris 1 enjoys strong international relations and plays an important role in training France’s top researchers, academics, judges, lawyers, senior managers and civil servants. It achieves consistently high rankings and has the highest reputation of any university in France. The Sorbonne Law School is one of the most prestigious law faculties in Europe and the world.

The university is located in the heart of the Latin Quarter, an area in the 5th and the 6th arrondissements of Paris. This area has been the centre of higher education in Paris since the Middle Ages – it was here that students and professors communicated in Latin until the Revolution. It still has a large population of students and academics. As well as its vibrant nightlife, shops and restaurants, you can visit famous monuments including the Panthéon on the Left Bank, and the 16th-century Église St-Étienne du Mont, burial site of the patron saint of Paris, Ste-Geneviève.
