Year established: 1845
Student Population: 23,000 (1,400 international students)

About
Queens’s University of Belfast is one of the U.K.’s leading research universities and one of the largest employers in the city. As a member of the Russell Group of Universities, it offers more than 300 degree programs and a broad subject range.

Highlights
Queen’s has been praised for its achievements in cancer research and has a special Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology on campus, together with relationships with other hospitals. The University’s alumni include former President of Ireland Mary McAleese and Nobel Prize for Literature Recipient Seamus Heaney.

Unique Characteristics
Study subjects at Queen’s are organized into 20 schools spread across three faculties. Several institutes are also associated with Queen's. Located close to the main campus is the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, which offers training to law graduates to enable them to practise as solicitors or barristers in Northern Ireland, England and Wales and the Republic of Ireland. The University has an international student population of more than 1,400 and relationships with universities and schools worldwide, including the Sydney Law School.

Location
The University campus is one of the best-equipped in Europe and includes everything you need, from nightclubs to sporting facilities, restaurants and its own art house cinema. Everything is within walking distance from student accommodation, with the city centre only 15 minutes walk. Belfast has transformed itself from the dangerous days of the 1970s and is now a picturesque, hip and hedonistic party town.
