The Kunstakademie Münster, or Academy of Fine Arts Münster, has an international reputation for the study of painting, sculpture, installation art, performance, photography, film and new media. It offers ideal study conditions in a striking new building located in Münster, a city closely associated with sculpture and art.
The Academy offers modern studios, workshops, lecture theatres and exhibition spaces. All teachers are practising artists who exhibit nationally or internationally. Students elect to study with a particular artist, who then mentors the student in their work. Numerous exhibitions and projects in public spaces are an integral part of the course.
Unique characteristics
As well as working in the studio, students attend lectures on fine art, art history, art therapy, perceptual psychology and technical workshop courses in skills such as digital art, photography, film/video, silk-screen printing, lithography, engraving, ceramics and sculpture with synthetic materials and wood. The Academy is an international university, both in terms of the teaching staff as well as its students, who come from around the world.
Virtually destroyed in WWII, Münster rebuilt a copy of its medieval centre and is a charming city rich in tradition and history. There are close to 50,000 students and as many as 500,000 bicycles here. The city is surrounded by green landscapes and offers plenty of cultural and leisure activities, including at the University of Münster’s International Centre, "Die Brücke".
