About
The Hochschule für Musik Freiburg is one of Europe‘s most renowned schools of music covering the entire range of traditional music professions. Freiburg is known for its wonderful music scene and is home to the Opera Theatre, the SWR Symphony Orchestra and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.

Highlights
The Hochschule für Musik Freiburg has attracted prominent musicians past and present and its students regularly receive prestigious international awards. The Hochschule puts on more than 450 public concerts, operas and recitals every year and students perform in numerous ensembles at the school, including the Freiburg Drum Ensemble, the orchestra, the choir, the chamber orchestra, the chamber choir, and the school's big band.

Unique characteristics
The Hochschule offers programs in a broad spectrum of 35 major musical fields, with degree programs ranging undergraduate to doctorate. The Hochschule houses several renowned institutes, including the New Music Institute, the Freiburg Institute for Music Medicine, the Institute of Music Theatre and the Institute of Historical Performance Practice.
 
Location
The Hochschule originated in the baroque Wentzinger House in the Cathedral Square but is based today in a modern building to the east of Freiburg. Situated between the Rhine Valley and the Black Forest, Freiburg is Germany’s warmest city. Here you can cycle, snowboard, visit the nearby vineyards and enjoy the student nightlife.
