Shandong University (SDU)
Location: Jinan, Shandong
Year Established: 1901
Student Population: 60,000 (2,500 international students)

Shandong University is a public comprehensive institution with seven campuses, with all but one located in the city of Jinan. Coming under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, Shandong has an extensive history and is known for its variety of disciplines and academic strength. With its 60,000 strong student population, it is one of the largest universities in China.
Shandong University is in a state of continual growth and offers literally hundreds of subjects. It is particularly noted for its arts and social sciences faculties. Professor Mo Yan, a graduate supervisor from Shandong University, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in October 2012.
Unique Characteristics
In its original form, the University was established in 1733 by an Imperial edict from the Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Since then it has had numerous incarnations throughout China’s tumultuous history. The roads within the vast central campus are named after the Concepts of Confucianism. You will literally be walking through history as you walk from one class to the next.
Jinan is the capital of the Shandong province in eastern China. It has played an important role in the history of the region. Whilst it is a busy provincial capital with an impressive industrial sprawl, it also contains 72 charming artesian springs, which flow into the Daming Lake. The central city is tourist and foreigner friendly, with numerous shopping districts and restaurants.
