Program Description
Our January in New Zealand program takes place over six weeks between early-January and mid-February at the University of Otago. The University of Otago is well recognised for its world-class quality of research and teaching. It is one of the few universities in the world where the main activity of its host city, Dunedin, is education.
During your six-week stay, you will take one or two courses subject to your faculty’s approval.

Local Overview
Dunedin will be your host city during this January in New Zealand program. Located at the southern tip of the South Island, Dunedin is a mid-sized city with enough going on to ensure you make the most of your time abroad.
Dunedin is one of the adventure capitals of the world - its surrounding hinterland offers world-class hiking, skiing, water sports, bungee jumping and adventure tourism, as well as incredible landscapes.
Option 1: Self-catered, off-campus university residential apartments
This accommodation option is available for 7 weeks. Each apartment has basic cooking facilities and is shared with other students from NZ or international students. Students have a private room with a double bed in a two-bedroom apartment. Linen, towel, pillow, bedding and WiFi are not included. The houses are within a short walking distance of campus as well as the main street and shopping centre.
Option 2: Fully catered, on-campus university dormitories
This accommodation option is available for 7 weeks. Each student has a private room with central heating, a king single bed, book shelf, wardrobe, chair, desk, drawers, curtains and rubbish bin. Sheets and a pillow case are also provided along with a weekly linen service. Pillow, towels, duvet and blanket are however not provided. A sleeping bag is recommended. Internet as well as three meals a day are included. There is also a gym, commons rooms and, depending on the time of year, various social events.
Host institution
 The University of Otago is located within walking distance of the bustling city centre. Founded in 1869, Otago University is renowned for its stellar academics who specialise in medicine, biology, natural sciences, arts, law and business. Dunedin is a university town, its student population making up 20% of the total population. The student populations represents over 100 different countries. There are many opportunities to join activities both within the university and the rest of the city. The university’s Student Associated supports over 100 sports, arts, cultural and faith groups.

OS-HELP loans may be available to eligible students enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place where the program is approved for credit prior to departure. Application required.
